Here are the main takeaways from the trilateral peace summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan, hosted by the United States at the White House.

  • Trilateral Declaration stating Armenian and Azerbaijani dedication to peace and unblocking commerce transport and communication links.

  • Both Armenia and Azerbaijan sign agreements with the United States to develop strategic partnerships.
    • Potential areas of cooperation include defense, energy, trade, connectivity, and technology including artificial intelligence.
    • Azerbaijan President Aliyev and President Trump signed a memorandum to create a Strategic Working Group tasked with drafting a Strategic Partnership Charter between Baku and Washington. This allows Azerbaijan to “launch” its strategic partnership with the United States.

  • The construction of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) will allow Azerbaijan to get full access to its exclave of Nakhchivan across Armenian territory while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty.
    • No information was released on which U.S. company would be involved in the Route.
    • Armenia is also creating an exclusive partnership with the United States to develop this corridor, which could be extended up to 99 years.
    • Trump: “We anticipate significant infrastructure development by American companies. They are very anxious to go into these two countries. They are going to spend a lot of money...which will economically benefit all three of our nations.”

  • Azerbaijan gains U.S. waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, allowing for direct military cooperation.

  • Armenia and Azerbaijan withdraw as members of the OSCE Minsk Group that provided international mediation with three co-chairs – France, Russia, and the United States – between Yerevan and Baku over Nagorno Karabakh.

  • Trump: “We have a very comprehensive agreement. It’s a peace agreement, and this isn’t a ceasefire.”

  • Aliyev: “I’m sure that Armenia and Azerbaijan will find courage and responsibility to reconcile.”

  • Aliyev: “There should be no doubt and no suspicions that any of the sides would step back. If any of us, Prime Minister Pashinyan or myself, had in mind to step back, we would not have come here.”

  • Pashinyan: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

  • Aliyev and Pashinyan agreed to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
